I write character-rooted fantasy — dark and strange around the edges.

Hi, I’m Japheth — a storyteller propelled by executive dysfunction and coffee.

Don’t let the silly name fool you, PEWPEWHUZZAH is serious make-believe.

Writing journey, creative chaos, personal essays, and contemporary fiction.

About

Japheth was hatched to human parents in the virginal waters of Genesee County, Michigan. He emerged from childhood an apex-introvert who clung to music, guitar, and Dungeons & Dragons. Sustained by Dr. Dre and an intensive regimen of minor pentatonics and polyhedra-powered storytelling, his awkward teenage soul endured. He loved books and surrounded himself with them, but his voracious appetite for fantasy and science fiction was denied by an attention span best measured in drams. It was during this time — a time marked by 37 failed readings of Fellowship of the Ring — that he decided to write his very own novel.

Then life happened at Ludicrous Speed.

At 41, Japheth was broadsided by a realization that he was halfway to his dirt-nap. This triggered a torrent of existential navel-gazing. That “someday” novel that he’d carried with him all those years became important. Urgent. In the clarity of his half-dead analysis, he decided it was time to take action. He began writing.

Eight years later, faced with a half dozen novels at varying stages of not done yet, Japheth decided to write short fiction. In the interest of experiencing the fabled condition known as “done,” he made a commitment to publishing short fiction every week. Today, the PEWPEWHUZZAH blog and Substack are the fruit of that decision.
